BOTOX® is the trade name for a drug called Botulinum Toxin A. This drug has been safely used for multiple indications for over 30 years in medicine. It works by temporarily blocking the activity of treated muscles.
The skin overlying these muscles relaxes which leads to a softening of fine lines and wrinkles.
BOTOX is a prescription only medicine and must be prescribed by a qualified medical professional after a face to face consultation.
It is used for the treatment of Dynamic wrinkles / lines
There are 2 types of wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle activity, lines that form when we frown, between eyes. Lines around eyes when we smile and lines on the forehead when we raise our brows.
Used appropriately around the eyes and on the forehead Botulinum Toxin can appear to reduce excess skin on the upper eyelids and open the eyes. For ladies their eyeshadow will be easier to apply, and in men it can help delay the signs of eyebrow droop and heavy eyelids.
Static Wrinkles are associated with loss of collagen, elasticity and volume loss. These lines are constant even at rest. Botox will ease these lines from the first treatment, however it may take repeated treatments over time to reduce these static wrinkles. If administered every 4 months this will significantly reduce these lines within 1 year if used with a prescriptive skin care range.
If the lines are due to excessive volume loss the skin may require collagen replacement/stimulation.
It can also be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the arm pits.
