What is Hyperhidrosis?

Excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a common under diagnosed problem in the UK
Excessive sweating affects 1-2% of the population
Hyperhidrosis can happen at any time winter or summer, and can cause severe embarassment, affecting working and social life
Special occassions such as weddings and job interviews cause stress which severes to exaccerbate the excess sweating
The excessive sweating can cause damp patches on clothing, with some people having to change their clothing up to 10 times per day
It is not the norm to have an odour, unless poor hygiene is practised
The cause of hyperhidrosis is not fully know, but it is thought to be hereditary
By the time the client comes to the clinic they will have tried all makes and brands of antiperspirants including those available on prescription.

What are the causes of excessive underarm sweating?

This overactivity, it is thought, is linked to problems with the sympathetic nervous system which regulates many important functions of the body.

Eccrine glands are found virtually all over the body surface but they are concentrated on particular areas including under the armpits.

There are many factors which can stimulate excessive sweating, including:

Exercise
Heat or cold
Alcohol, coffee or tea
Smoking
Hot or spicy food
Stress, anxiety or strong emotions
Certain times of the day

Treating Hyperhidrosis

The use of Botulinum Toxin (Botox) for hyperhidrosis is a safe and effective treatment that can be administered within the clinic.
The treatment involves injection of of the Botulinum (Botox) into sites under the arm. It can be mildly uncomfortable , however is a very quick procedure.

Following the procedure the client may return to normal activities however refrain from exercise/swimming for 48 hours and wearing deodorants until the following day.

Results can be seen within 1 week and can last between 2-6 months.
This treatment can dramatically change a persons quality of professional and personal life.
